From the Desk of the President...

Greetings, MAWD Family!

We had an incredible time with this year’s MAWD Conference. Two pre-conference sessions – bling & selfie stations – a dinner and comedian night, all great things to bring workforce professionals together for learning and networking!  Session topics ranged from working across generations, employer engagement, resources to support individuals with barriers to employment, and more. One keynote speaker, Molly Kennedy, gave us some much-needed quick tips to identify and stop an internal spiral or conflict, enabling ourselves to move forward into productive thinking and engagement. Did you get to attend this year? If so, what was your favorite session or favorite part of the conference. I would love to hear from you!

It’s never too early for information, so Save the Date for next year’s annual conference. Next year’s conference will be Wednesday, April 7 to Friday, April 9 at the Wyndham Executive Center in Columbia, MO. We will have more information throughout the year – keep an eye out for updates on our website or through our quarterly newsletters.

The National Association of Workforce Development Professionals annual conference took place May 18-20, in Phoenix, AZ. We had 5 MAWD board members and at least 7 other Missouri members in attendance. This year’s NAWDP Conference was exceptional, as always, but came with some special celebrations. NAWDP held its inaugural graduation ceremony for its NAWDP Leadership Academy completers. Two of MAWD’s Board Members, Erica Davis (Public Information Chair) and Shannon Johnson (President-Elect), completed their training and earned the Certified Workforce Development Leader (CWDL) certificate. Samantha Terry (Past-President) was also accepted into the cohort #2, which kicked off during the annual conference. Congratulations to all three members on your accomplishments! Learn more about the Leadership Academy and CWDL here

As we bring this program year to a close, a couple of reminders. One – please join us for the annual membership meeting on Wednesday, June 3 at 2 PM. This meeting is specifically for current members of the Association to receive an update regarding MAWD, updates, and more. Log into your MAWD account and register for the event to receive the meeting link. Two – board elections will begin June 3 and will remain open through June 15. All MAWD members in good standing with the Association will receive a link to cast their vote. Although the ballots are closed for this year, I encourage you to consider serving on the MAWD board in future years as positions become open – I have seen many individuals grow personally and professionally as a direct result of their time serving on the Board—that could be you in the future!

Thanks again for all you do to provide quality, workforce development services to individuals throughout the state. We see your dedication, your passion, and your hard work!
