From the Desk of the President...

Hello MAWD Members,

As summer comes to a close, I hope you had the chance to enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time with your loved ones. With the end of summer, we step into a busy season filled with new plans and goals. For many of us, back-to-school time is an opportunity to make a positive impact and help our communities thrive. We are truly fortunate to be in a position where we can make a difference in the lives of others.

Next month, the Board will meet to begin planning for the 2025 Conference. Our goal is to bring you valuable opportunities to learn and collaborate with agencies and colleagues across the state.

If you’re interested in getting more involved with MAWD, there are multiple opportunities available! We have regular standing committees as well as special conference committees that could use your skills and passion. If you’d like to contribute to serving MAWD members statewide, please reach out to one of our board members or fill out the “Contact Us” form on the MAWD website.

We truly value your membership and look forward to serving and connecting with you throughout the year.

Samantha Terry

MAWD President

Updates from Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development

The Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, Office of Workforce Development is proudly celebrating the completion of 5 apprentices in its Workforce Development Specialist Registered Apprenticeship Program this past quarter. A big CONGRATULATIONS to (in alphabetical order):

  • Jake Gesling
  • Alicia Harvey
  • Deborah Lucas
  • Amanda (Mandy) McClanahan
  • Francis Thompson

In addition to completing their training, all 5 of these apprentices earned their CWDP credential, as part of the educational component requirement. Registered Apprenticeship is a proven workforce solution that enables employers to train up employees to be well equipped in their role. The program teaches staff how to work with customers within the workforce development world and have a better understanding of the workforce ecosystem. If your organization is interested in learning more about DHEWD’s Workforce Development Specialist Registered Apprenticeship Program, please reach out to apprenticeship@dhewd.mo.gov.

Missouri remains 3rd in the nation for new, active, and completed apprentices—that’s right below two large states: California and Texas. To continue to support expansion efforts, we cordially invite you to attend the 7th Annual Apprenticeship Missouri Summit. This year’s event will be November 20-21, in Jefferson City. This year we will host a business service representative bootcamp on Wednesday, from 1-5, and the full Summit on Thursday, from 8-2.

For questions on the Summit, please reach out to Donna Brake or apprenticeship@dhewd.mo.gov.
